“Answer the Call”
"From Football to Full-time Ministry: Answering God's Call to Feed His People"
Hey there, friends!
Today, I want to share a little bit about the journey that led me from the bright lights of the NFL to the humble fields of First Fruits Farm. When I made the decision to walk away from professional football and pursue full-time ministry, it wasn't met with the reaction you might expect.
I vividly remember the conversation with my mother when she asked if I was going to move back home and start a church. My response was a resounding "no." I couldn't envision myself as a traditional pastor, preaching from a pulpit or leading a congregation in hymns. No, the calling I felt was different—it was raw, practical, and deeply rooted in the soil.
God called me to share the gospel in a tangible way, through the act of farming. It might sound mundane to some, but there's something profoundly sacred about working the land and growing food to nourish His people. In a world plagued by hunger and food insecurity, the need is great, especially here in my home state of North Carolina.
At First Fruits Farm, we're not just growing fruits and vegetables—we're cultivating love, hope, and community. Every seed planted and every crop harvested is done with the intention of glorifying the Lord and serving those in need. It's a simple yet powerful reminder that whatever we do, we should do it to the best of our ability for His glory.
But farming isn't for everyone, and that's okay. God has a unique calling for each of us, whether it's in a field, a classroom, an office, or beyond. The key is to listen for His voice and respond with humility and obedience.
So, as you go about your day, I encourage you to pause and reflect on the callings God has placed on your heart. Whether big or small, grandiose or seemingly insignificant, each one is an opportunity to be an ambassador for His Kingdom here on earth.
May we all answer His call with open hearts and willing spirits.
Blessings,
